So you know your Sun sign but what about your Soul sign? Evolutionary Astrology is based upon the archetype of Pluto as representative of your Soul. Have you read the popular Sun signs or horoscope and been left wondering if that is all there is to astrology? If so, understanding the following Soul generations could mark the beginning of a new and deeper look into yourself and the study of Evolutionary Astrology.

In Evolutionary Astrology, natal Pluto by sign represents the generation into which the Soul was born, and Pluto by natal house represents the individual orientation of the Soul. Together – natal Pluto by sign and house – will describe where the Soul has come from – or karmic dynamic – by way of most recent past lives. Inclinations and how a Soul is influenced on a most basic level is revealed by this core understanding. The need for security and how one tends to gravitate to the past is represented by the karmic dynamic. All of this can be operating rather unconsciously in many of us until we mature and begin to see many patterns of behavior repeated again and again in our lives.

We have arrived on planet Earth, however, to evolve and to expand in conscious awareness. This evolutionary intent or consciousness expansion for any Soul is described by the sign and house opposite of natal Pluto, known as the Pluto polarity point. The polarity sign represents the generational lessons for any group of Souls. The polarity house of natal Pluto shows the individual life lessons the Soul is here to learn. This Soul karmic dynamic and evolutionary intent are intrinsic to the EA methodology and are covered in detail in EAN’s MultiMedia Courses.

The Pluto Generations

Below are descriptions of the current Pluto generations by sign and polarity point, and the dates Pluto ingressed into zodiacal signs for the last 100 years. Read and see if your generation resonates with you. Please note that Pluto’s 248-year transit through the zodiac is very elliptical, anywhere from 10-30 years in any particular sign. To discover your individual Soul sign, the natal chart must be cast with your birth date, time and place. If your birth year is on a cusp year you will need to research the exact date Pluto changed signs due to retrogradation.

Pluto in Cancer – 1912/13 through 1937/38/39

cancerThis generation of Souls carries the archetype of Cancer, or it is all about home and family and traditional gender roles. WWII forced the women out of the home and into the work force. Some never looked back and yet other females were only too happy to return to the kitchen. Males had the bigger challenge being born into such an emotionally-charged sign of the zodiac, and many chose to just suppress. These Souls desire emotional security and face the lessons of self-determination and self-responsibility – Capricorn polarity point. These older males remained in control of government and politics way past their prime – Capricorn must be in charge of its outer world in order to be secure. Many of these Souls also faced gender switches this lifetime – either just switching genders or getting ready to shift in their next life. As this generation faces end of life issues the ultimate recognition is that our Soul’s emotional or inner growth is really all we take with us.

Pluto in Leo – 1937/38/39 through 1956/57

leoThis is a very creative generation of Souls who come from a subjective perspective of the universe and face the Aquarian polarity lessons of objectivity. Why doesn’t the world revolve around me? Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio/8th House, is a water/emotional archetype. The Soul is emotionally based despite the suppression of emotional cognizance over the last 2,000 years (or more) of the Piscean Age. Pluto in Leo emotional security lies in connection to their special creative talents, which they would like to impose upon the world – the starving artist syndrome or the inventor. Society (Aquarius) ignores them until they reframe their creativity so that it serves a purpose for the larger whole. This generation made divorce a household word: Who will love me? Answer: Yourself first but inwardly. Pluto in Leo contains all kinds of emotional displacements as well as truly unique and gifted individuals such as Bill Clinton and Bill Gates. Dane Rudhyar stated that this generation will lay the seed thoughts for the Aquarian Age.

Pluto in Virgo – 1956/57 through 1971/72

virgoThis generation turns the Pluto in Leo superiority complex on its head. No one does inferiority better than Pluto in Virgo. Their lesson is unconditional love with healthy boundaries, and re-birthing their spirituality – Pisces polarity. These Souls ushered in the health nuts and computer geeks with all that left-brain Virgo attention to detail. Yet all the material (Virgo – earth/physical element) will not suffice for an inner life. These are the servants of the universe and made “helicopter parents” the norm. However, until they serve themselves first it remains difficult to really love another and allow their kids to learn through trial and error. These Pluto in Virgo Souls have typically come through all the sadomasochistic distortions of human-made religions – Remember the Inquisition anyone? – and may have resisted  searching for spirituality. Yet this is what they are here to bring forth – natural, universal spiritual principles to help everyone heal at the end of the Piscean Age. These are the true healers of the zodiac.

Pluto in Libra – 1971/72 through 1983/84

libraThis generation of Souls comes from lifetimes of relationships and possesses a fervent knowing that there is one to make them whole and complete somewhere out there. Therefore, their lesson is discovering the “inner self” first – Aries polarity. These Souls are so orientated to the other that this task can seem like a foreign language. Exactly who am I? Through the interaction and contrast of all the different types of Souls upon the planet, this generation will learn who they are and who they are not. These are the Souls who show up on your doorstep for a week, a month, may I move in? They will be thrown back upon themselves, again and again due to this co-dependency upon others. The beauty of this generation is that the Pluto in Libras can bring forth the social norms that really take the masses into consideration – taking care of the least of us takes care of all of us as the Biblical saying goes.

Pluto in Scorpio – 1983/84 through 1995

scorpioThese are the little power houses of the zodiac: Who has it and who doesn’t? Unfortunately, they have made their mark so far through the false power of guns – think Columbine, Virginia Tech and Newtown – all Pluto in Scorpios pulling the trigger. The lesson is Taurus – inner self-reliance – and understanding that outer power is no substitute for inner power. Scorpio, which Pluto rules, is where Souls battle between the separating and returning “forces” of nature. This is the generation that will destroy us or save us. Additionally their inherent power can also help to become the recyclers of the zodiac, turning our garbage dumps into gold mines. These Souls are here to teach us that empowering another empowers everyone. Every generation always claims the “end is near” and yet we continue on. This is the generation to take us into an entirely new world. May it be so.

Pluto in Sagittarius – 1995 through 2008

sagitariusThese young Souls are the little philosophers of the zodiac. How can they know so much and be so young! They can also be the “know it all” who does not listen or consider an alternate reality which is the Gemini polarity point. While they are deeply thoughtful for the most part, they are here to recognize that there are many paths to the ultimate truth. These Souls will range from religious zealots to metaphysical mystics. Tolerance will become their path as they recognize the relativity of truth and the many pathways home to God. Engage their right brains with lots of questions, moving them along the path of discovery and the continual expansion of consciousness beyond being right.

Pluto in Capricorn – 2008 through 2023/24

capricornThese new babies of the zodiac are coming in through the Plutonian extremes of the material world – either too much of it or not enough food, clothing and shelter for basic survival needs. Security is through the material manifestations and yet the lap of luxury is no substitute for emotional security – their Cancer polarity lesson. We thought the Pluto in Scorpios acted like the entitlement generation! Capricorn has lifetimes of being in charge. This generation also re-visits the gender issues, and must be allowed the freedom to be a sensitive boy or the tom girl in sports. These kids need lots of hugs to get in touch with their emotional body, and will be forced to go inward when their outer world crashes.
